THE HOI AN FOUNDATION CHANGED THEIR NAME IN NOVEMBER 2013 TO THE VIETNAM HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. THIS IS A CHANGE IN NAME ONLY - THE STAFF, PROJECTS, OBJECTIVES AND GOALS ARE THE SAME.
About Vietnam Health Improvement Project
Viet Nam Health Improvement Project was started in 2004 by Dr. Josh Solomon to bring medical knowledge and skills to the rural area of central Vietnam. The charitable organization was initially named the Hoi An Foundation since it was situated in the beautiful town of Hoi An. From this location, the organization could easily work with the many communes that are in close proximity.
Dr. Solomon had taken a leave from his medical practice in the U.S. and traveled throughout Southeast Asia. His intent was to just get a breather from the workload that comes with his profession. But, as he traveled through the various countries, he realized that his skills and training could bring a lot of good to areas where access to medical care is limited.
The organization started a free clinic to treat various ailments. As this grew, it became apparent that it would be better to focus on specific areas of need and work to improve the systems in place in order to facilitate sustainable change. You can see the projects where we are focused in the projects tab of this website.
Our staff is small but we accomplish a lot. We rely mainly on contributions from individuals. Please review our website and if you feel inclined to donate, it can be for a specific project or a general donation to our work.
