Opportunistic infections (OI's)
Opportunistic infections are infections that do not normally cause disease in humans but occurs in people with weak or abnormally functioning immune systems (immunodeficiency). Opportunistic infections can also be common infections that cause disproportionate or prolonged infections in people with immunodeficiency. Examples of Opportunistic Infections are very rare strains of pneumonia, particularly aggressive forms of diarrhea, some infection associated cancers (e.g. cervical cancer), and invasive fungal infections (e.g. thrush that causes a severe systemic infection) and Tuberculosis.
